Altmark-Käserei Uelzena GmbH Bismark is a future-oriented cheese dairy rooted in tradition
With the establishing of the Altmark-Käserei Uelzena GmbH Bismark and the  construction of a new cheese dairy building in 1992, the long tradition of milk processing goes on in the Altmark, a historic region in the northern third of Saxony Anhalt in Germany. The company, which is part of the Uelzena Group headquartered in Uelzen in Lower Saxony, has gained a good reputation, even beyond the German borders.

The 15 kg blocks of Edam and Gouda cheese produced in this cheese dairy, which is located in a town called Bismark, are supplied via distribution partners to wholesalers, sliced cheese producers and the food industry in general; some quantities are also exported.

The raw materials delivered to this state-of-the-art cheese dairy are produced by milk farmers from the Altmark, the Wendland and the Luenenburg Heath. The successful cooperation between milk producers, milk processors and distribution partners is a sound foundation for the continuance of milk production and processing in these mainly agriculturally used rural regions.

A new butter production facility has been erected at the Bismark site at the end of 1996; the production of butter started in 1997. The processing capacities in both production departments, butter and cheese, have since then been constantly improved by further investments and streamlining efforts.

The cheese making started with a targeted performance of 20,000 tons of cheese per year, it now reaches 30,000 tons. The capacity of the butter production of initially 10,000 tons per year could even be doubled. In July 2010, the total cheese production reached the 400,000 tons mark and by the end of 2010, a total of 185,000 tons of high quality butter has been dispatched from the Bismark site.

90 employees including 8-9 trainees work in a three-shift operation on 365 days per year thus ensuring the smooth production of high quality cheese and butter products.

The people working in the company contribute significantly to the success of the Altmark-Käserei Uelzena GmbH Bismark. Therefore, the promotion of qualified new trainees is one of the company’s most important goalss. Each year, numerous men and women are educated in milk processing and production of dairy products and qualified as dairy technologists, dairy lab assistants and mechatronic engineers.
